Swedish Verb Blitz now available on iOS! 🇸🇪

Hot on the heels of its Norwegian cousin, Swedish Verb Blitz for iOS joins our growing catalogue of language apps on Apple’s App Store!

With well over a hundred verbs, Swedish Verb Blitz is a great way to practise your svensk grammar. And as they represent some of the most commonly used Swedish words, it’s also a great way to expand your vocabulary.

Swedish verb Reference and drill 🇸🇪

As well as the essential verb bank, there are multiple self-test tools included too. These include drills for meaning, as well as translation quizzes for conjugation practice. The full line-up is as follows:

  • Infinitive quiz
  • Grid quiz (infinitives)
  • Conjugation quiz
  • Snap game (conjugations)
  • Gapfill (spelling – ideal for writing practice)

Additionally, there’s a performance section to track your progress. Each time you play an activity, the app will note the verbs you found the trickiest. Just check back in ‘Performance’ to review and revise them.

Easy… And hard!

Learners of svenska are relatively lucky when it comes to learning verb tables. With its Scandinavian cousin languages, it shares a highly simplified system for person.

However, irregular verbs can still be tricky. Like other Germanic languages, some very common Swedish verbs change their root vowel to indicate tense – a feature called ablaut. In English, we see it at work in verb patterns like do – did – done and swim – swam – swum. A svensk example is the verb ‘to burn’, which is brinna – brann – brunnit.

You’ll find the most frequent of these so-called strong verbs here in the app, so you can learn, revise and drill.

Free for all

As always with our Verb Blitz apps, Swedish Verb Blitz is a free download, supported by in-app ads. We’ll never put ads in learning games themselves, but restrict them to menus for the least disruption.

Powerful self-test drills

And what’s more, it’s a powerful drill tool, with several games for self-testing. These include:

  • Infinitive quizzes – drill those meanings!
  • Conjugation / tense quiz – can you pick the correct translation?
  • Gapfill quiz – hone those spelling skills

There’s also a nifty performance section, where you can see the verbs you’ve found trickiest throughout the exercises.

Norwegian verb quirks made easy

Typical for German languages on the Indo-European tree, Norwegian features a raft of so-called strong verbs. This means that the infinitive, simple past and past participle forms often differ in their vowel, amongst other things; compare “do – did – done” in English, another German languages. A good example is ‘to see’: in Norwegian, “se – så – sett” (see, saw, seen).

Norwegian Verb Blitz is full of these quirky strong verbs, giving learners plenty of material to chew on. But you’ll also find lots of regular, everyday verbs too, providing a rounded introduction to some essential core vocab in the language.

Download for free!

As with most of our apps, Norwegian Verb Blitz for iOS is a free app, supported by minimal in-app advertising. We’ll never put ads in an actual learning game, so they shouldn’t get in the way of your practice.

Icelandic Noun Master makes declensions less scary!

Once you get serious about learning Icelandic, you’ll come up against that big, potentially scary wall called declensions.

These determine the many forms that Icelandic nouns can take, depending on their meaning and role in the sentence. They’re notoriously difficult for foreign learners, as it’s often hard to learn which ending goes with which case, gender and number – and then you have the indefinite / definite distinction to add to the mix, too.

Finally, there’s a new Android app from GeoGlot, which will take this often overwhelming task down a few notches in the fear factor!

Icelandic Noun Master is both an interactive reference tool and a drill practice machine. It lists the key declension patterns, and contains over a hundred model nouns to browse. Not only that, but the multichoice and gapfill quizzes test you on those tricky endings – and you can choose to focus on just one case (nominative, accusative, dative or genitive) or all of them. It will even track your progress and report the cases that you’ve been finding most difficult in the games.

So, don’t shy away from noun declensions – become a Noun Master with our latest app!

As always, GeoGlot apps are made by language lovers / learners for the same. To ensure it’s available for all learners, Icelandic Noun Master is free and supported by ads (as unobtrusive as possible, and never in any of the games!).
