Italian Verb Blitz for iOS now available!

Italian learners can now practise and drill core Italian verbs with our new release for Apple devices, Italian Verb Blitz for iOS.

Packed with verbs – and features!

Featuring scores of Italian verbs, fully conjugated, the app makes a great reference tool. But it’s even more powerful as a means for drilling translations and conjugations. The app features a suite of simple but challenging games:

  • Infinitive Quiz: drill those meanings
  • Conjugation Quiz: become an expert in endings
  • Snap Quiz: test your translation skills
  • Gapfill: hone your spelling

The app will track which verbs you find trickiest, too. Tap into the Performance section to see a personal ranking of your verbs, based on your actual gameplay.

Italian grammar and vocabulary

Whats’ more, the verbs selected represent some of the most common words in the language. Because of this, the app makes an excellent vocabulary expander as well as grammar guide.

Italian, as a romance language, features a heavily declined verb system with myriad endings. As such, it can be overwhelming for students, especially those completely new to studying italiano. Fortunately, you can select which tenses to focus on in the app, rather than bombard yourself with all of them at once.

Only covered the present tense? Then just leave that one ticked. Want a mammoth drill challenge? Then tick them all! It’s up to you to choose a level: apprentice to master.

Romanian verbs? No problem with our new Android app!

Romanian learners can now hop on the Geoglot verb drill train, with our brand new release of Romanian Verb Blitz for Android!

It’s always an exciting moment when we release a new language at Geoglot. Romanian has been a particularly interesting one, especially for those of us who speak other romance languages. To those familiar with Italian, Portuguese, French or Spanish, Romanian will seem strangely familiar. It developed from the Latin spoken by Roman settlers in Dacia – roughly modern-day Romania and Moldova – and has been influenced by its surrounding non-romance languages too.

For learner of this fascinating language, Romanian Verb Blitz is both a handy reference and grammatical drill tool. With over 100 conjugations, there’s lots of opportunity to practise those tricky endings (typical for a romance language!).

Romanian vocabulary boosting

Not only that, but it’s also a great way to expand your everyday vocabulary. The verbs included represent some of the most commonly used words in Romanian, so you’ll boost your word power as well as your grammar.

All the familiar Verb Blitz drill games are there:

  • Infinitive quiz – drill those meanings
  • Conjugation quiz – test yourself on verb endings
  • Snap – translation practice
  • Gapfill – great for spelling / literacy skills

As little – or as much – as you like

You can select which tenses to play the games with – ideal for focusing on what you are currently learning. Only covered the present so far? Then just select that one in the settings. Want a fiendishly tricky test to test your language skills? Then select all of them!

What’s more, the app will track all the verbs that you have found trickiest across the games. You can review these at any time in the ‘Performance‘ section, and target them for more practice.

As always, Verb Blitz for Android remains a free download, supported by discreet in-app ads – but never in the activities themselves.

Scandinavian verbs: Now listen and learn on iOS!

Our new trio of Scandinavian Verb Blitz apps for iOS was treated to a major update today. You can now click verb tables to listen to the verb phrases spoken!

Danish, Norwegian and Swedish Verb Blitz for iOS use Apple’s text-to-speech technology to deliver the same experience as users have done in our Android apps. The audio element turns the verb tables into a much more interactive experience that engages students’ listening skills.

Look, listen and learn

When browsing the verb tables in any of the apps, simply tap on a target language phrase to listen to the spoken form. It’s a great way to engage both visual and auditory learning styles. And doing so may mean those verbs stick even faster.

You can download the apps free from the App Store via the following links:

Danish Verb Blitz now on iOS: Dansk practice for Apple users!

Another Scandinavian language joins our growing range of iOS grammar drill apps with the release of Danish Verb Blitz for iOS this week.

With well over 100 verbs to learn, review and drill, it’s a great way to hone your language skills. The featured verbs are also amongst the commonest words in the language. That makes the app is a great tool for expanding your vocabulary, too.

Danish drill

The core of the app is its verb reference engine, with a searchable list of verbs with full conjugations. But the app tackles both meaning and conjugation, with the familiar set of games:

  • Infinitive quiz / grid quiz
  • Conjugation quiz
  • Gapfill quiz

Gapfill is one of our favourites, as it really tests your knowledge of written forms – master those spellings!

As well as the activities, there’s a handy tracking system. Using a simple score tracker through the games, you can check at any point which verbs you’ve found trickiest.

Scandinavian trio

Our new dansk addition completes a trio of new apps on the App Store, representing three mainland Scandinavian languages. If you’re a fan of them all, check out Norwegian (Bokmål) Verb Blitz and Swedish Verb Blitz for iOS, too.

Not using an Apple device? All the languages are also available in our Android collection, too. Our full Android catalogue can be found here.

Norwegian learners: master those verbs with our new iOS app!

Finally, iPhone and iPad users can join the Verb Blitz party. Geoglot’s popular Norwegian Verb Blitz is now available as a free download on iOS!

Featuring a hefty verb bank of over 300 Bokmål verbs, it’s a great tool for learning some core norsk vocab. You can drill down into each of them for information on the simple past, past participle, and tense construction.

Powerful self-test drills

And what’s more, it’s a powerful drill tool, with several games for self-testing. These include:

  • Infinitive quizzes – drill those meanings!
  • Conjugation / tense quiz – can you pick the correct translation?
  • Gapfill quiz – hone those spelling skills

There’s also a nifty performance section, where you can see the verbs you’ve found trickiest throughout the exercises.

Norwegian verb quirks made easy

Typical for German languages on the Indo-European tree, Norwegian features a raft of so-called strong verbs. This means that the infinitive, simple past and past participle forms often differ in their vowel, amongst other things; compare “do – did – done” in English, another German languages. A good example is ‘to see’: in Norwegian, “se – så – sett” (see, saw, seen).

Norwegian Verb Blitz is full of these quirky strong verbs, giving learners plenty of material to chew on. But you’ll also find lots of regular, everyday verbs too, providing a rounded introduction to some essential core vocab in the language.

Download for free!

As with most of our apps, Norwegian Verb Blitz for iOS is a free app, supported by minimal in-app advertising. We’ll never put ads in an actual learning game, so they shouldn’t get in the way of your practice.

Hungarian Verb Blitz released!

It’s always an exciting moment when we add a new language to the Verb Blitz range. This time, magyar [ˈmɒɟɒr] gets some attention with our release of Hungarian Verb Blitz for Android!

Every language has its interesting and different features, and Hungarian is no exception. What is particularly special about Hungarian is that transitive verbs have two forms: indefinite and definite. This means that the verb codes for whether its object has indefinite (like ‘a’) or definite (like ‘the’) status. You can read more about Hungarian indefinite and definite status in this very helpful Wikipedia article.

Note that when playing the games, you can use the settings to exclude definite forms, and just focus on the indefinite ones if you prefer. Likewise, you can turn on and off several of the tenses in the games if you prefer to focus on just the basic ones.

Otherwise, Hungarian verbs display a regularity that is rare in some of the more mainstream languages taught in schools and colleges. There are just a handful of very irregular verb paradigms, and once you have learnt the quirks of the language (such as vowel harmony), verb conjugation is not as hard as it first seems.
